Stellarium Web draws the sky for a chosen place and time, then lets you search for planets, stars, constellations and deep-sky objects. It is equally useful for planning an evening outside or learning what an unfamiliar point of light might be.
Set the sky correctly
Allow location access or choose a place manually, then check the time shown in the controls. The horizon and object positions update together, so you can inspect the sky now or move forward to plan a later observation.
Find and understand an object
Use search when you know a name, or select something directly in the sky. Labels, constellation lines and other overlays can be switched on only when they help, keeping the default view closer to an uncluttered planetarium.
Take it outside carefully
The map is an excellent orientation aid, but it cannot know your local cloud, trees, buildings or light pollution. Use the compass direction and altitude as a guide, then give your eyes time to adjust before assuming an object is missing.
Things to know
- The view is a simulation rather than a live camera image.
- Local weather and physical obstructions are not represented.
- Dense labels and precise controls are easier on a larger screen.
