SCREENSHOT / SEPTEMBER 2026

Thisissand turns the screen into a gravity-led drawing surface. Choose colours, release streams of tiny grains and build landscapes from accumulated layers, then browse the gallery to see how far other people push the same small set of tools.

Learn the material

Start with two colours and pour slowly from different heights. The grains pile up rather than behaving like a normal brush, so slopes, interruptions and the direction of each stream matter more than drawing a perfect outline.

Use colour as structure

Long gradients produce atmospheric layers, while abrupt palette changes make geological-looking bands. Leave some areas quiet and build depth gradually; filling every gap immediately removes much of the tension that makes the results interesting.

Browse for techniques

The gallery is useful for seeing what the simple interaction can support, from soft landscapes to highly controlled illustrations. Study how an image was layered, but make a new composition rather than treating someone else’s work as a template to trace.

Things to know

  • Precise drawing is difficult because the grains obey gravity.
  • Saving and sharing features may differ between web and mobile apps.
  • The public gallery can contain unpredictable user-created work.
