BeepBox is a compact browser music sequencer built around patterns, channels and a looping timeline. Notes are quick to place, instruments can be adjusted in depth, and the complete song is encoded in its link for unusually frictionless sharing.
Making a first loop
Select a pattern block, click notes into the grid and press play. Add channels for harmony, bass or drums, then arrange repeated and varied patterns across the timeline to turn the loop into a short structure.
Sharing and saving
Changes are represented in the page URL, so copying the link preserves the current song. The File menu also provides export options; save a separate copy before making a destructive experiment.
Going beyond the preset
Instrument controls expose envelopes, effects, modulation and other synthesis choices. Start with a preset, change one control at a time and listen in context rather than judging the sound from a single note.
Things to know
- The dense editor takes time to learn on a phone.
- A very long song produces a correspondingly long share URL.
- The pattern workflow is less suited to live multitrack recording.
