SCREENSHOT / SEPTEMBER 2026

Excalidraw makes diagrams from boxes, arrows, text and freehand marks without turning every thought into a polished presentation. Drawings can remain local, be saved as files or shared through collaboration sessions.

What it does

The canvas supports shapes, connectors, images, libraries and export to PNG or SVG. Local-first behaviour means a new drawing can begin immediately without creating a workspace.

Why it works

The rough visual style signals that a diagram is open to change. That makes it easier to discuss structure and relationships before a team becomes attached to presentation detail.

How to use it

Start with the fewest shapes possible, label connectors and group related parts with frames. Save the editable Excalidraw file as well as an exported image if the diagram will evolve.

Things to know

  • Browser storage can be cleared unexpectedly.
  • Large canvases become difficult to manage.
  • Some hosted collaboration and workspace features are separate products.
